During the property boom of the early part of the 21st century, many clients purchased land, or apartments with a share of the freehold, via a company structure. It seems now there is a market to sell off-the-shelf Bulgarian registered companies! The usual way for most UK residents to deal with legal matters in Bulgaria is to appoint a lawyer in Bulgaria using a Power of Attorney (PoA) to do so. HOWEVER, recent changes (July 2020) to the Bulgarian Code of Civil Procedure means that if you are selling company shares, a PoA signed by a notary in England or Wales is no longer acceptable. The document needs to be signed either in Bulgaria or dealt with at the Bulgarian Embassy.
